A7-800's from Indy Hoosier Dome

Good-day Eh! I recently acquired 4, A7-800's that were originally installed in the Indianapolis Hoosier Dome. They were removed when they modified the facility and then called it the RCA Dome. I got them from a guy who bought them at the auction of the surplus stuff from the renovation. Since I have no idea of the history of this facility I am not sure when these speakers were made - not that it matters because they sound great. Does anybody know when these speakers could have been manufactured? All of the components serial numbers have 4 digits (if my failing memory serves me right) and all begin with an 8 if that helps. I have wanted some of these speakers since I tooled around in bands as a youth; I had to wait until I was 50 years old to actually find some. Well worth the wait. Thanks.

Congratulations on your aquisition. I just assembled a pair of A7-800s this week for portable use! They sound fantastic and fit like a glove in the back of my Grand Wagoneer (I ought to have a tailgate party). Anyway, I don't know the age of your A7s but I'm sure someone on here does.

Congrats on your acquisition. One way to tell what year they are might be to locate the number that is usually printed on the back rim of the woofer. The number is 6 digits long and should begin with 391, the code for Altec.

If I am correct, The next two digits are the week of the year and the last digit is the last digit of the year. 391264 would be made by Altec, 26th week, and could be either 1964 or 1974 or 1984. I am not sure if I have stated this all correctly and hope that if I have not someone else will tell it right.

Absolutely right David, why didn't I think of that?? The woofer manufacture date will give me a general idea and that's all I really need. Thanks. I'll check one of them when I get home.
